Coral Headlines Good Acres| The Impact Guild IMPACT STORY: Sunset Ridge Collective & Charis Park Like many legacy faith communities in San Antonio and around the country, Sunset Ridge Church found itself in crisis. A 70-year-old fixture in the city’s Alamo Heights neighborhood, the congregation was facing challenges that have become a quiet epidemic for aging faith communities across America. Once a thriving center of activity, the church was by 2018 grappling with a shrinking congregation and a mounting budget deficit. On the church’s 4.26-acre campus, a historic chapel, a “modern” (as of 1965) sanctuary, and buildings that once housed bustling classrooms sat virtually empty six days a week. 78209 Magazine Pocket Park Design for City of Alamo Heights The project addresses a simple need: Alamo Heights lacked public spaces where people, especially families with young children, can gather. Located in an existing parking lot, between the municipal pool, baseball fields, and neighborhood streets, this park will activate what’s already there and serve multiple users: Families with young children have a safe, contained place to play year-round. Runners heading to the trail can stop for water and restrooms. Pool visitors can extend their time at the complex. By the end of this century, San Antonio may experience an additional 80 days per year with temperature higher than 100 degrees. Raquel Torres | San Antonio Report Little by little, San Antonians’ access to park space is improving “A big mission of the park is to create a space for community but also to be good stewards of the earth,” Bates said. “Sustainability and creation care is a big piece of it, converting a parking lot — a bunch of asphalt that used to be a heat island — into a beautiful green space that can help absorb heat instead of producing heat.” Mitchell Parton | SA Business Journal $55 million mixed-income apartments to break ground near Red Berry Estate "There are so many jobs coming to that side of town, and with it being off the freeway, there's so much connectivity — it gives you immediate access to all the major job hubs," said Jay Johnson, development director in Texas for Cohen-Esrey. James McCandless | SA Business Journal Downtown Artista Hotel boutique project to begin construction in July "With that Artista name, we've been curating art — custom art from unique makers," he said. "We've gone on trips to Mexico and Peru and other places to feature artists that are making this stuff by hand. This is not a cookie cutter thing.
