University Towers at Texas Southern University Houston, TX

Client: Texas Southern University

Project Team: HarrisonKornberg Architects, Lord Aeck Sargent Architects, Horizon International Contractors

The outdoor courtyard at the University Towers at Texas Southern University provides student residents with a community space for social interaction and programmed activities. The courtyard features a multi-use field, shaded seating, and relaxing outdoor study areas to fit the versatile needs of the residents. Circular planters and board-form concrete walls thoughtfully incorporate seating and study space while seamlessly blending with the architectural vocabulary of the building. The courtyard is designed around two mature Elm trees that were preserved during construction to provide a natural focal point and shaded space over the area. The design was completed in 2016 and awarded the 2017 AMCH Golden Trowel Award for Educational Facilities (College/University).

Completed design while at previous firm.
